Practical finance knowledge

Use calculators with context—not guesswork

A clear process for comparing loans, investments, taxes and salary figures.

01

Start with the latest verified figures

Use the current loan offer, bank rate, salary structure, invoice or investment statement. Record the date because interest rates, tax rules and product terms can change. A calculator cannot identify an outdated input.

Keep monthly and annual figures separate. An annual interest rate, monthly EMI and yearly salary may appear together, so read every field label before entering a value.

02

Compare total cost, not one attractive number

A lower loan EMI can result from a longer tenure and may increase total interest. A higher investment projection can result from an optimistic return assumption. A discount may be followed by tax or delivery charges.

Review the result breakdown, then include processing fees, insurance, taxes, expense ratios, penalties and other product-specific costs where they apply.

03

Test more than one scenario

Future returns and inflation are uncertain. Run conservative, expected and optimistic cases. For a loan, compare different rates and tenures. For retirement, test higher expenses and a longer life expectancy.

A useful plan remains workable when the outcome is less favourable than expected. Keep an emergency buffer instead of using every rupee of estimated eligibility or monthly surplus.

04

Understand regulated calculations

GST, HRA, TDS, PF and gratuity calculations depend on current law, notifications and individual facts. The website shows common methods and clearly stated assumptions; it does not file a return or determine legal eligibility.

Verify the applicable financial year and use official portals, employer records and a qualified tax or legal professional for important submissions.

05

Keep decisions with qualified professionals

General tools explain arithmetic but do not recommend a loan, mutual fund, insurance policy, tax position or security. Risk capacity, cash flow, goals and personal circumstances require a wider assessment.

Use the result to prepare better questions. Use regulated advisers, lenders, employers and government sources to confirm the final action.
