Understanding Your Salary: CTC, Gross Pay and Take-home

Separate employer cost, gross earnings and employee deductions to understand the amount reaching your bank.

Introduction

CTC is the employer's total stated cost and may include employer PF, gratuity assumptions, insurance, variable pay and benefits that do not arrive as monthly cash. Gross salary is earnings before employee deductions. Take-home pay is the amount after employee PF, TDS, professional tax and other deductions.

Start with verified information

Read the salary structure line by line. Confirm which amounts are monthly, annual, fixed, variable or reimbursements. A large annual bonus can make the CTC look high while regular monthly cash remains lower.

Compare costs, returns and assumptions

TDS is an estimate of tax deducted through payroll, not necessarily the final tax payable. Declarations, deductions, other income and regime selection can change the year-end position.

Keep a transparent planning record

Use the calculator with values from the latest offer or payslip, then verify the final structure with payroll or a tax professional.

Important: Calculators and articles provide general educational estimates, not financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice. Verify important decisions with current official documents and a qualified professional.
